Wet and warm chewing gum can be extremely sticky, so it can easily ruin your favorite clothes.
But even if you accidentally let it happen, there are still a few things you can do to save your clothes.
Here are some tricks that can help you get rid of the gum safely.
Freeze It
Put the clothing with the gum in the freezer. Leave it for a few hours. The cold will make the gum hard and easier to remove.
Scrape Gently
Once the gum is frozen, use a butter knife or a spoon to gently scrape it off. Be careful not to damage the fabric.
Soak in Vinegar
If there's still some gum left, mix equal parts of white vinegar and water. Soak the area in this mixture for 15-20 minutes.
The vinegar helps break down the gum.
Rub with Ice
If you can't put the clothes in the freezer, you can rub an ice cube directly on the gum. This hardens the gum, making it easier to peel off.
Use Peanut Butter or Oil
Apply a small amount of peanut butter or cooking oil to the gum. Let it sit for a few minutes. These help break down the gum, making it less sticky.
Wash as Usual
After removing the gum, wash the clothing as you normally would. Check to make sure the gum is completely gone before drying.
Check the Label
Before trying any method, check the care label on your clothes. Make sure that the cleaning method you choose is safe for the fabric.
Be Patient
Removing gum may take some time and patience. Don't rush, and repeat the steps if needed.
