Recent research has highlighted the positive impact of high-quality sleep in strengthening resilience against depressive symptoms and anxious feelings.

While good sleep can't fight these problems on its own, it can minimize your chances of having them.

Let's find out more.

A powerful tool

Led by specialists at the University of York, the study emphasizes that enduring stress poses a substantial risk to mental health, including conditions like depression and pathological anxiety.

However, quality sleep, coupled with effective coping strategies that allow reframing of challenging situations in a positive light, can help prevent adverse mental health problems.

The study, conducted during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, examined data from a diverse group of over 600 participants.

The aim was to investigate how coping strategies contribute to positive mental health outcomes, highlighting the importance of targeting these strategies and sleep quality during times of stress.

Fight stress with every tool you have

Dr. Scott Cairney, a supervisor on the project from the Department of Psychology at the University of York, affirmed the well-known association between good sleep and improved health and well-being.

The research findings further demonstrated the significant role of sleep in coping with chronic stress and sustaining well-being over extended periods, ultimately alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety.
