Most people are well-aware that harsh childhood can change your life forever, but how important is it to have loving parents?

The newest research suggests that a loving bond between parents and their young kids can have a significant impact on their tendency to be kind, empathetic, and helpful towards others, known as "prosocial" behavior.

Let's find out more about it.

How it was conducted

The specialists found that kids who experienced great and loving relationships with their parents at age 3 not only had fewer mental health problems, but also displayed greater prosocial tendencies.

For every unit increase in a child's closeness with their parents at age three, their prosocial behavior increased by 0.24 units by adolescence.

On the flip side, kids who weren't loved enough were less likely to develop social skills over time.

Why it's important?

The research shows the importance of developing support for families, especially those facing financial and work pressures, to help establish close parent-child relationships.

It also shows how prosocial behavior and mental health evolve in young people over time.

It emphasizes the significance of early relationships between parents and children in shaping a child's ability to act positively towards others.

The study underscores the crucial role of strong early relationships between parents and their kids in fostering prosocial behavior and enhancing children's mental resilience.

Scientists hope that policies can be developed to support parents in building these bonds, even in challenging circumstances.
