Narcissism in modern society is a set of personality traits that are characterized by callousness, grandiosity and legitimacy.
However, there is narcissistic personality disorder, which affects about 1% of people. Therefore, it can be said that not all narcissists have a personality disorder.
What are the types of Narcissism
Open (Constructive Narcissism), Closed (Deficit Narcissism), and Poisonous (Destructive Narcissism).
You can find different classifications and names from different authors, and the number of subtypes distinguished can also vary. Those narcissists that I call Poisonous are constantly criticizing themselves and those around them.
In general, in order to understand the difference between these three subgroups, it is enough to highlight their basic psychological need. In short, then:
- Open narcissists: want to be admired;
- Closed narcissists: emotionally dependent on a partner, his success and position in society;
- Poisonous narcissists: seek dominance and try to morally destroy the other person.
