Let's find out what they've discovered.

A New Experiment

However, some test results suggested that moderate internet usage could have positive effects on the physical and mental well-being of adolescents.

To explore this further, scientists analyzed data from the previous survey conducted in 2017-2020, encompassing information on daily smartphone hours and various health measures.

The results revealed that, by 2020, 85 percent of teens used smartphones for over 2 hours daily, up from 65%

Those 4 hours daily reported higher rates of stress, suicidal thoughts, and substance use.

Interestingly, teens using smartphones for 1-2 hours daily encountered fewer problems than those not using smartphones at all.

It's Useful To Know

While the research doesn't establish a causal link, it highlights potential health impacts, offering insights for future usage guidelines for teens, especially with the ongoing rise in daily smartphone use.

The authors emphasize the importance of understanding the consequences of prolonged smart device usage for adolescent health.
