Have you ever wanted your memory to be stronger than it is?

According to a new study, it's possible in the future - moreover, it can potentially help individuals with Alzheimer's.

Let's find out more.

How your brain works when you sleep

Scientists from UCLA Health and Tel Aviv University have made a study to research how the brain consolidates memory during sleep.

Their study, published in Nature Neuroscience, provided physiological evidence supporting their theory that the brain's memory center and the cerebral cortex communicate during deep sleep.

How it was discovered

The researchers tested this theory using electrodes implanted in the brains of different epilepsy patients.

They showed participants photo pairings before they sleep, delivered targeted electrical stimulation during sleep, and tested memory recall after they wake up.

The results showed improved memory performance following stimulation and indicated the flow of information between the hippocampus and cortex.

It can be actually useful

This research could potentially benefit patients with memory disorders like Alzheimer's.

The scientists aim to further explore the ability to enhance specific memories through special electrical stimulation and AI.
