Contrary to popular belief that alcohol helps you sleep, it is harmful. In the article we will tell you why alcohol and sleep are incompatible things.

Alcohol makes sleep superficial

Even though one or two glasses quickly induce drowsiness, the quality of sleep deteriorates significantly.

According to studies, people under the influence of alcohol are more likely to wake up at night.

Superficial sleep harms the physical and mental abilities of a person.

REM sleep disorder

REM sleep is the deepest and most important stage of sleep, when the human brain gets rest.

Quality REM sleep has a positive effect on concentration, memory and helps the brain process emotions during the day.

Alcohol disrupts REM sleep, which impairs cognitive abilities and causes increased irritability.

Heartburn

For many, alcohol causes heartburn. This is due to the relaxation of the esophageal sphincter.

Due to discomfort, a person simply cannot fall asleep or sleep deeply.

In addition, caffeine causes heartburn. Therefore, if you suffer from an illness, try to get rid of coffee.

If you find it difficult to fall asleep, look for alternative ways. For example:  playing sports, massage, walking in the fresh air, reading a book.
