A Surprising Study

A new experiment surveyed 337 health workers in South Korea about positive and negative workplace gossip related to their organizations and also management.

The experiment results revealed that positive gossip about management or the organization was viewed as valuable, especially when discussing capabilities and achievements.

Surprisingly, there was no evidence of a relationship between negative gossip and coercive power in the workplace.

The lead researcher suggests that participating in positive gossip can contribute to a more supportive work environment, potentially reducing the likelihood of voluntary employee turnover.
