While some meds are created to fight certain diseases, they can actually be useful for people with different conditions.

Modern antidepressants may help prevent people with bipolar disorder from relapsing into a new depressive episode, according to a new international clinical trial.

Let's find out more about how it works.

Not just depression

A new discovery suggests that modern antidepressants can help people with bipolar disorder not to fall into depression.

This challenges some current guidelines and may also change how bipolar depression is treated worldwide.

The experiment discovered that continuing antidepressant treatment beyond current recommendations can reduce the risk of new depressive relapses.

The experiment involved nearly 180 patients with bipolar disorder who at the moment were in remission from their depressive episodes.

Those individuals who continued antidepressant treatment were 40% less likely to experience a relapse of any mood event.

This knowledge is crucial in stabilizing and improving the lives of people with bipolar disorder.
